Passive Voice with Modals




Passive voice with Modals
“CAN, MAY, MIGHT, SHOULD, MUST, OUGHT TO”
Formulas:-
Active voice: Subject + modal verbs + first form of the verb + object
Passive Voice: Object + modal verbs + be + 3rd form of the verb + subject

Passive voice for Present/Future Modals verbs
“CAN, MAY, MIGHT, SHOULD, MUST, OUGHT TO”
Active voice: CAN
She can play a guitar.
She cannot/can't play a guitar.
Can she play a guitar?
Passive voice: CAN + BE
A guitar can be played by her.
A guitar can't be played by her.
Can a guitar be played by her?
Active voice: MAY
I may buy a mobile phone.
I may not/mayn't buy a mobile phone.
Passive voice: MAY + BE
A mobile phone may be bought by me.
A mobile phone mayn't be bought by me.
Active voice: MIGHT 
They might play chess.
They might not play chess.
Passive voice: MIGHT + BE
Chess might be played by them.
Chess mightn't be played by them.
Active voice: SHOULD
You should study all lessons.
You should not/ shouldn't study all lessons.
Should you study all lessons?
Passive voice: SHOULD + BE
All lessons should be studied by you.
All lessons shouldn't be studied by you.
Should all lessons be studied by you?
Active voice: MUST
We must obey our parents.
We must not/ mustn't obey our parents.
Passive voice: MUST + BE
Parents must be obeyed by us.
Parents mustn't be obeyed by us.
Active voice: OUGHT TO
They ought to take the precautions.
Passive voice: OUGHT TO + BE
The precautions ought to be taken by them.


Passive voice for Past Modals
“MAY HAVE, MIGHT HAVE, SHOULD HAVE, MUST HAVE, OUGHT TO HAVE”
Formulas:-
Active voice: Subject + modal verbs +have + first form of the verb + object
Passive Voice: Object + modal verbs + have + been + 3rd form of the verb + subject
Passive voice for Past Modals 
 “MAY HAVE, MIGHT HAVE, SHOULD HAVE, MUST HAVE, OUGHT HAVE TO”
Active voice: MAY HAVE
You may have operated the computer.
You mayn't have operated the computer.
Passive voice: MAY HAVE BEEN
The computer may have been operated by you.
The computer mayn't have been operated by you.
Active voice: MIGHT HAVE
He might have watched movie.
He mightn't have watched movie.
Passive voice: MIGHT HAVE BEEN
The movie might have been watched by him.
The movie mightn't have been watched by him.
Active voice: SHOULD HAVE
You should have phoned him.
You shouldn't have phoned him.
Passive voice: SHOULD HAVE BEEN
He should have been phoned by you.
He should haven't been phoned by you.
Active voice: MUST HAVE
He must have attended the workshop.
He mustn't have attended the workshop.
Passive voice: MUST HAVE BEEN
The workshop must have been attended by him.
The workshop mustn't have been attended by him.
Active voice: OUGHT TO HAVE
You ought to have arranged money.
Active voice: OUGHT TO HAVE BEEN
The money ought to have been arranged by you.
